Thermodynamics of rate-independent plasticity

چکیده
We show that the singular dissipative potential of the phenomenological rate-independent plasticity can be obtained by homogenization of a micro-model with quadratic dissipation. The essential ingredient making this reduction possible is a rugged energy landscape at the micro-scale, generating under external loading a regular cascade of subcritical bifurcations. Such landscape may appear as a result of a sufficiently strong pinning or jamming of defects, leading to elastic micro-metastability. The rate-independent plastic deformation emerges in this description as a continuous succession of infinitesimal viscous events; the limiting procedure presumes the elimination of small time and length scales. We present an explicit example of a simple viscoelastic mass-spring system whose macroscopic dissipative behavior is plastic, rate independent. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

New implementation of a non-associated flow rule in rate-independent plasticity
One of the new research fields in plasticity is related to choosing a proper non-associated flow rule (NAFR), instead of the associated one (AFR), to predict the experimental results more accurately. The idea of the current research is derived from combining von Mises and Tresca criteria in the places of yield and plastic potential surfaces in rate-independent plasticity. This idea is implemen...

In the current research with novel first and second differentiations of a yield function, Euler forward along with Euler backward with its consistent elastic-plastic modulus are newly implemented in finite element program in rate-independent plasticity. An elastic-plastic internally pressurized thick walled cylinder is analyzed with four famous criteria including both pressure dependent and ind...
متن کاملThermodynamics of Rate-independent Processes in Viscous Solids at Small Strains
So-called generalized standard solids (of the Halphen-Nguyen type) involving also activated rate-independent processes such as plasticity, damage, or phase transformations, are described as a system of a momentum equilibrium equation and a variational inequality for inelastic evolution of internal-parameter variables. The stored energy is considered as temperature dependent and then the thermod...

In this paper the derivation of the second differentiation of a general yield surface implicit time stepping method along with its consistent elastic-plastic modulus is studied. Moreover, the explicit, trapezoidal implicit and fully implicit time stepping schemes are compared in rate-dependant plasticity. It is shown that implementing fully implicit time stepping scheme in rate-dependant plasti...
